Bond LSC Grants/Fiscal Team

The Bond LSC Grants and Fiscal Team strive to facilitate the LSC’s mission to become the intellectual focus for interdisciplinary research in the life sciences on the MU campus. They work with the LSC faculty, staff and students to seek internal and external funding opportunities, prepare funding proposals, and execute fiscal responsibilities.

Pre-Award: Bond LSC Faculty can look to Julia and Sheryl to assist them with the grant proposal process. At a minimum, for all proposals and progress reports submitted through the LSC, they will:

  • Review internal proposal budgets for completeness and accuracy, verifying salary calculations & needs
  • Enter proposal information into the PeopleSoft database
  • Review proposals to ensure compliance with agency guidelines, University regulations and policies
  • Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Program Administration (OSPA) for authorized signatures, proposal submission, account set-up
  • Track proposal progress

Other services they offer include assistance with:

  • Finding funding opportunities
  • Locating samples of successful proposals from specific agencies
  • Responding to questions regarding compliance with MU and LSC grant policies and regulations
  • Providing boilerplate wording for sections of proposals
  • Developing proposal writing timelines
  • Locating potential collaborators within the LSC & beyond
  • Reviewing narratives
  • Coordination of collaborative/center projects
  • Interpretation of agency guidelines and proposal specifications
  • Budget development
  • Completion of sponsor-specific forms
  • Subcontract information for University requirements
  • Writing and soliciting letters of support/commitment
  • Electronic submission processes
  • Requests from sponsors for additional information
  • Re-budgeting and continuation submissions

Post-Award: Teresa Paul and Kari Mitchell are prepared to handle the fiscal aspects of awarded grants. Faculty can rely on them to:

  • Assist with post-award financial reports
  • Respond to questions regarding expenses for grant projects
  • Process and track salaries using Personnel Action Forms (PAFs)
  • Monitor expenditures
  • Assist with preparation and review of travel vouchers
  • Reconcile purchasing cards, accounts and monthly fiscal statements
  • Assist with final financial reports through coordination with the OSPA accountants
  • Assist with the creation of new positions, working with the Human Resources Dept.
  • Assist international faculty and students with employment issues surrounding non-residential status
  • Work with OTSP on Material Transfer Agreements and patent issues
